Safety of application of Consys System
Normal people’s reaction on receiving the information related to X-Ray radiation is fear and worry about their health .But a man is daily subjected to X-Ray radiation of different intensity from the natural radiation background of Earth, sun radiation and technological factor. That’s why with a help of modern technologies our enterprise developed a scanning system with insignificant irradiation level absolutely safe for human’s health. The dose received by a human when scanning is equal to 0,65 mcSv. It is equivalent to the dose received by a human during 4 hours from the natural radiation background of earth or to the dose received by a passenger during 5 minutes of flight by an aircraft. During an hour of flight the passenger receives a dose, equal to 10 mcSv.
For comparison, the dose, received by a human from the natural radiation background of earth, is in Moscow 9 mcSv, in Helsinki – 20 mcSv, in Miami – 5 mcSv, in Europe it is in average 6-7 mcSv. Therefore, according to the data of the Ministry of Health of Russian Federation, the dose received by a human when scanning, is insignificant.
By the radiation safety the scanning system CONSYS corresponds to the American national standard ANSI/HPS N43.17-2002 “Radiation Safety for Personnel Security Screening Using X-rays”, to the Russian federal law “About Safety Radiation of Population”, to the requirements NRB-99, NRB-2000, OSPORB-99.
According to the recommendations of American National Council on radiation protection and the MAGATE recommendations concerning the safety norms for the population (pregnant women and children as well) the permissible level of irradiation from all sources of ionizing radiation of the nonmedical purpose is 1 mSv (1000 mcSv) a year. Therefore, when using CONSYS up to 1500 scanning of a human per year are allowed.
CONSYS is also safe for the personnel, because at the moment of scanning at distance of more than 1,5 m from the scanner the X-ray radiation level doesn’t exceed the natural radiation background level. In the waiting mode CONSYS gives absolutely no X-ray radiation. Therefore it allows to place CONSYS at small square near the examination luggage system.
